Earning Mesos

Are you short on mesos? Need funding to purchase your next equipment? Looking for a way to gain mesos faster? This short guide will list some of the do’s and do not’s of meso earning for each class.

All Classes

Do Winston’s Fossil Dig-up quest. The 30K mesos obtained are a considerable amount for the level (21).

Do the quest Alex the Runaway Kid. The level 25/30 earrings obtained saves you from buying earrings at that level.

Do the quest Fairy’s Horn Flute at levels 30-40, as it will give Blue Moon Earrings. This will save you from buying earrings at level 40.

Do the quests “To the New World”, “Jane the Alchemist” and “Peace at Eos Tower” at level 40. These quests will give good rewards, boosting your mesos by a large sum. All 3 quests can give a 60% Scroll for Gloves for ATT, which sells for 7-12 million mesos (the actual price depends on the server you are on)

Do the quest Terminating the Dark Force, which is the final sequel to the quest The Ore of Dark Crystal. Although the dark crystal ores might be pricey, they are worth the overall scrolls.

Do Party Quests. Especially for Ludibrium Party Quest, because you may recieve great prizes, such as Capes, Earrings and Scrolls.

Do keep your solid horns or foxtails or anything that can be used for the exhange quest. people will buy them at a higher price as compared to the NPC.

Do keep your money in the bank to refrain from buying unnecessary things.

Do not beg for mesos, it gives people the impression that you are a poor MapleStory player. Some players will get very annoyed when asked for mesos and you might get a defame instead.

Do not sell your ores to NPCs. Instead find someone on the free market and sell it. 100/150 mesos for an ore isn’t worth it. Neither should you sell those 1-meso items, chances are, they are worth decent amounts in the market (eg. Omoks, Monster Cards and Scrolls).

Do not do the Showa Exchange Quest, as the pay rates are not worth it at all.

Thieves

(Claw Thieves)-So, you are constantly refilling stars, also buying MP/HP pots, and you have scrolls/equips/etc. to buy. So, seems tough enough. Well here are some small tips that may help you:

Buy Subi throwing stars for training.(will help ‘down’, the price for refilling stars.)

Despite being weaker, icicles actually cost more to recharge compared to tobis. Try not to use the fanciful stars (wooden tops, snowballs, icicles) as the recharge costs tend to be steeper.

Bowmen

Don’t buy arrows from players, since they take more money than they’re worth. A arrow can be bought for 1 meso each in the store or made by obtaining 1 prosessed wood (10 tree branches/5 firewood and 1 stiff feather.) Don’t use upgraded arrows (Bronze arrows) for training.

Magician

Ice Lightning Mage:

An Ice Lightning mage with their cold beam at level 15 will find fire boars a valuable source of money. At that level, you should be able to kill fire boars in one hit. Ice/Lightning mages should try not to use Lightning Bolt to train at early levels as the MP cost is very high.

Cleric:

Clerics level 43+ with maxed heal should utilize the monkey forest or monkey swamp. Zombie lupins give good drops, exp, and you can mob them up and heal attack them. They drop nice amounts of meso too, and cursed dolls can sell for a nice profit. Zombie lupins are sort of like an upgraded fireboar but for Clerics. In actual fact, Clerics should NOT be losing mesos.

AoE (Area of Effect) When dealing with Area of Effect moves like explosion or thunderbolt, you will save a lot of mesos by sniping mobs instead of jumping into them and attacking. The main advantage of AoEs are their ability to assail monsters, yet giving the mobs no chance of reaching the caster.

Inflation

Like any real world currency, the MapleStory economy is subject to the same flow; because monsters provide an essentially unlimited supply of mesos, the value of the meso has decreased over time. Natural deflation occurs whenever players purchase items from NPCs, or when players who hold mesos no longer participate in the economy, or with an increase in population (not necessarily changing the hands of mesos, but affecting an average income) but mesos are generally created faster than the population can increase to even them out. This leads to continual price rises of various items.

To curb inflation, Nexon provides ample opportunities to begin anew on new servers, yet these new servers ultimately fall victim to the same problems as their predecessors; so, in order to curb inflation on individual servers, Nexon utilizes an escalating tax system in trading, deliveries, and player shops. This has implications for trading; because one can trade in installments to evade taxes, new opportunities for scamming have emerged, as well as disputes regarding the number of mesos one recieves.

How to Be Good at Maple Story

MapleStory is a free, downloadable MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) that currently has over one million players. With monsters to fight, quests to complete, friends to make, and lots of places to visit, MapleStory provides a wealth of challenges. What’s more, since the game includes cute characters and plenty of scenery, even the youngest gamer can enjoy playing. While training is often long and tedious, it pays off in the long run if you can stick to it, because the higher your level, the more there is to do. Want to become good at MapleStory? All it takes practice–and a few helpful tips.

Logging In

Find a good place to train. A good place has a lot of monsters that are at least 3 – 5 levels below you. If your level is below 10, there will not be any monsters with low enough levels, so just train on snails and mushrooms on Maple Island.

Familiarize yourself with your character. It will take some trial and error to discover you character’s attack range, jumping height, etc. Once you become familiar with the basics, try to learn more advanced tricks, such as how to dodge a monster that is chasing you by turning around and jumping at the same time.

The MapleStory character creation screen.

Customize your controls. You use the mouse and keyboard to navigate MapleStory. While the default keys may be acceptable, you might be able to improve your game by changing them.

Join or start a guild. To start a guild you will need a lot of money, and you’ll have to go to Orbis. If you create a guild, you become the guild master or leader. Then you may invite others, etc. You can also pick a logo of sorts, and distribute different titles to members. Membership in a guild helps you make friends, who you can then easily find and contact. Friends can help you with questions you may have or can go on quests with you. Plus, hey, it’s good to have friends.

Try doing some quests, as they sometimes give you good, rare items. Even though quests often give you little experience, they are a good break from training all day long.

If you’re becoming a Magician, you can do it at level 8. Go to Ellinia and travel to the very top to talk to Grendel the Really Old. He will turn you into a Magician. If you’re becoming a Thief, you can do it at level 10. Go to Kerning City and find a door with “Fusion Jazz Bar” above it. Go inside there and go down the drain in the toilet on the left. You’ll find the Dark Lord there. He will turn you into a Rogue. If you’re becoming a Warrior, you can do it at level 10. Go to Perion and go to the Shrine of Warriors which is located at the very top. Talk to “Dances with Balrog” . If you’re becoming a Bowman, you can do it at level 10. Go to Henesys and go to Mushroom Park. Then travel to the very right until you come to a house next to Game Park. Go inside and talk to Athena Pierce. She will make you a Bowman.

Join a Party Quest when you get to level 10 or level 21. Go to Kerning City or Henesys in Mushroom Park and ask to join a party. If it is your first time, tell them so they can brief you and give you tips. Party questing is a great way to gain experience fast and is also very fun. You can’t Party Quest anymore after level 30 in Kerning City, in Henesys it is any level over level 10.

Make your second job advancement at level 30. Each class is different in the advancement, so do some research to find out how to go about it.

Find another place to train after reaching level 31. You’ll benefit from a good place to train until you reach levels 36 – 38, in the newest patch, Vers. 0.46, there is a new haunted house in the new town NLC, this is available to anyone after Halloween.

Buy a ticket to Orbis from Ellinia at level 38. When you reach Orbis, check www.hidden-street.net for the location of Jr. Cellions, Jr. Lioners, and Jr. Grupins. They give you a good amount of experience and drop Solid Horns, which are used in the “Exchange Quest,” in which you can get 500 experience and some items for every 100 Solid Horns you acquire.

Consider doing the Ludibrium Party Quest at level 35. Level 35 is very low for that Party Quest, but if you feel up to it, why not? Don’t tell the others it is your first time or you won’t get in. Simply read a guide, and complete the quest up to the 8th stage. If you feel comfortable fighting the boss and you have Magic Guard upwards of 700hp, tell your cleric. You can do the Ludibrium Party Quest until level 50.

Orbis PQ is another option, and you can do it from level 51-70.If you don’t know how, tell your PQ members to brief you.

Make your third job advancement after you reach level 70. Once again, each class is different, so do some research in advance.

Two Curse Eye monsters. Maplestory has more than one hundred different monsters.

Grendel -

Can you verify any of this? This is a portion of a letter found on the body of a messenger outside of Perion. We don’t know to whom it was addressed to in Perion and the story it tells is too fantastic to be believed. I have people out now searching for the rest of this document, but what it says here is terrifying if true.

Dances With Balrogs

My friend,

Forgive me that I cannot sign my name. I fear that by the time you read this, the worst will have happened and I will be gone, but even so, my identity might compromise our activities.

I do not ask you to mourn for me. I will have died fighting for the right. I fight for my family, my town, and my world and I do not believe there is a better ending a person can ask for. I ask that you do not come here yourself. The Black Wings are too strong. This town has become their citadel and they would easily take care of a lone threat. Instead I ask you to publicize my story. Let Maple World know what has happened here. Let everyone know the true source of the Big Bang. Let them know what has happened and who caused it. Perhaps if the Explorers and the Cygnus Knights are alerted, the worst may be avoided. That is my only hope.

My home is Edelstein. It’s a quiet mining village that depends on a mineral called “Rue” for its economic livelihood. We are a peaceful people, content to work our mines and develop our technology. My people have a knack for with machines and we’ve developed a number of clever robot companions who help us in our work. Indeed, if there’s one word to describe Edelstein, it would be “ingenuity.” We take great pride in working together and supporting each other in the community.

Save in one area, Edelstein has never had much impact on the world. We like it that way. We haven’t seen an Explorer or a Cygnus Knight here in hundreds of years. We have little access to the great schools of magic, so our wizards have never specialized in attack or healing like the other magicians of Maple World. Instead our “Battle Mages” utilize magical auras to bolster the skills of other members of the community. A group of Battle Mage supported fighters has always been sufficient to drive off the few brigand bands in the area and their healing skills, while not as great as your clerics, are usually sufficient for the injuries common to a mining community.

In the same way, those like me who have a restless nature can take up the arms of the Wild Hunters. These foresters have developed a kinship with the ferocious jaguars that roam the hills around Edelstein. As a matched pair, they supply security to our town. When called on, Wild Hunters can be as brave and as powerful as any of your Warriors.

I’ve always believed that our low profile has less to do with any inherent peacefulness in our nature, than the shame of our great crime against Maple World.

Edelstein, you see, is where the Black Mage was born.

In case you run into some technical issues we have some suggestions that would help smooth the update and installation process.

Perform Windows Update
You may be lacking essential updates on your computer to run MapleStory properly.  Follow these steps:

1.    Update to the latest DirectX that matches your graphics card.
2.    Update your graphics card drivers.
3.    Details on how are provided on our download page. Please scroll to the bottom.

Patching/Updating the Game
It is important you have enough hard drive space on your computer to download and install MapleStory. We recommend having at least 6 gigs of space available during this process. To find out how much space you have available go to My Computer and right-click C: drive and select Properties. You will see a pie graph indicating what is available and used. If you do not have enough space, try to delete unnecessary files and empty your trash after.

Stuck on the Patcher
If you are stuck on a phase during the patcher it might be because your computer lacks hard drive space. Please check that you have enough space to update the game. Sometimes the patcher can seem stuck because there are a lot of people patching. Please give it a few moments for it to resume.

Big Bang Changes

-          Leveling

o    As mentioned in a previous post, the experience curve for leveling is much less steep after Big Bang than it was previously.  This means from Lv.10 on, the amount of experience points needed to progress from one level to the next is lower, making leveling up faster throughout levels 10 – 200.

-          Fighting

o    Extensive changes have been made to the fighting system.  The formulas for damage, defense, accuracy, and avoidability have all been extensively overhauled.  Important to note for new and old players alike is that accuracy is decreased by a set amount for every level lower than a monster you are, to prevent players from attempting to hunt monsters that would be too difficult for them.

-          Maps

o    Several changes have been made to maps throughout Maple World, with the most extensive change being a completely rearranged Victoria Island.

o    Towns have new layouts, and many monster maps have been removed or replaced.

o    Foot travel to the Victoria Island towns has been expedited with the addition of Six Path Crossway to the center of the island as a hub.

§  The entrance to Sleepywood and the airships to Orbis and Ereve have been moved to Six Path Crossway as well.

o    Some modifications have been made to Orbis to make the town easier to navigate.

-          Item Drops

o    The drop rates of many Use and some Etc. items have been increased, with the drop rate of most HP and MP recovery items having been increased considerably.

-          Party Quests

o    The starting levels for some party quests have been changed, and the upper level restriction for most party quests has been removed.

o    Many party quests that weren’t previously in the Party Search menu have been added to it.

o    Modifications have been made to some of the party quests, such as First Time Together.

o    Astaroth has been added as an option to the Dimensional Mirror for characters of the appropriate levels.

-          Quests

o    Most NPCs in Maple World received a lesson in grammar, so their dialog should be grammatically correct.

o    Most quests in the game have been retooled. Quest requirements have been adjusted in response to the changes in maps and in monster levels.

o    Quests that are now for a different level than before have had their rewards adjusted accordingly.

o    The hunting and/or collecting requirements for the completion of many quests have been lowered to expedite their completion.

o    The experience rewarded for many quests that are still for the same level has been increased.

-          Monsters

o    Most monsters throughout Maple World have had adjustments made to their levels, to varying degrees.

o    The stats of monsters—as well as the experience they give, the amount of mesos they drop, and the level of the equipment they drop—have been adjusted accordingly.

o    The levels of monsters have been specifically adjusted and consolidated to one area in order to prevent an excessive need for travel throughout Maple World for quests of certain level.

o    Some monster maps are now restricted by level to help prevent players from wandering into areas that are beyond their level range.

-          Skills

o    Skills for all jobs have been streamlined and consolidated into the most useful ones.

o    If you had Skill Points assigned to a skill that has been removed, those points will be returned to your SP pool.

o    A warning message will appear when you assign all SP normally obtainable to a lower job, to prevent you from accidentally assigning too many SP to an earlier job.

New Events

-          Evolving Ring [12.07.2010 - 12.23.2010]: A blank ring that can be upgraded once per day for a maximum of 17 times. On The final day of the event, the ring in your inventory will evolve into a tradable ring.

o    Talk to Gaga in major towns to get a level 0 ring. Stay logged in for an hour to evolve the ring into a level 1 ring. Remember to not log out until your level 0 ring has reached level 1, otherwise you’ll have to start again.

o    Log in every day and ask Gaga for an upgrade. Hold the item that he gives you for an hour, and then return the potion back to Gaga to increase the ring by 1 level. Logging out before the one hour mark will cause the item to disappear and you’ll have to start again.

o    The ring must be in your Equip inventory in order for it to gain a level.

o    On December 23rd, the current version of the ring will become tradable. This does not apply to users who start the event on this day.

-          Eve of Resistance [12.07.2010 - 12.19.2010]: Your chance to get a head start on your Resistance characters.

o    This event is open to all adventurers, simply level up and you’ll gain items that can be used by a Resistance character when they are released.

o    For reaching milestone levels of 20, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160, you will receive an Energy Capsule. This capsule can be traded to a character on the same account and can only be used by a Resistance character for an instant EXP injection. Doctor’s orders restrict 7 uses of this item to prevent unwanted side effects.

o    For reaching level 40, you’ll receive a special Weapon Box that can be moved to another character on the same account. This box contains a Resistance-specific weapon, so it can only be used by members of the Resistance.

-          New User Event [12.07.2010 – 02.01.2011]: It’s the best time to play MapleStory, there are so many exciting changes in store, but we have sweetened the deal by offering some special gifts to new users. Register as a new user during this time to receive the items.

o    When a new user makes a 1st job advancement they are showered with gifts.

§  Basic Magnifying Glass.

§  Dark Scroll for One-Handed ATT 40% for melee and range physical damage classes. (Warriors, Bowmen, Thieves, etc)

§  Dark Scroll for One-Handed ATT 40% for Magicians, this includes Evan.

§  Dark Scroll for Two-Handed ATT 40% for Arans.

§  A random 10 Day mount coupon for Yeti, Nighmare or Pink Bear mounts.

o    When a user makes a 2nd job advancement, they receive one of the following 3 pets: Black Kitty, Black Pig, and Penguin.

o    When a user adds 10 friends, a VIP Teleport Rock is given.

-          Returned Friend [12.07.2010 – 01.31.2011]: Been away from MapleStory for a while? In addition to having the Big Bang update, we’ve made it more enticing for veteran Maplers to come back.

o    Users who have not logged in since November 7th will receive a Ring Box, a VIP Hair Coupon, a VIP Face Coupon and a 1.5x EXP (1 hour) coupon.

o    Stay logged in for 3 hours and the ring turns into a Returned Friend Ring with some solid stats!

o    Character on the dormant account must be at least level 15 to participate.

-          New World Event [12.07.2010 – 12.29.2010]: The Big Bang update is so big that we needed new worlds to contain it. During this event users who level on the new servers will receive special gifts.

o    Users in the new world who makes a 1st job advancement will receive 100,000 mesos after completing the quest given by Teo.

o    Users in the new world who makes a 2nd job advancement will receive 200,000 mesos after completing the quest given by Teo.

o    Users who persevere and make it to level 70 within the event time will receive a special bandana to commemorate the event. (STR +18, DEX +18, INT +18, LUK +18, Weapon DEF +180, Magic DEF +180, Accuracy +25, Avoidability +25, and Hands +10.)

-          Hot Time Event [12.11.2010]: Users who log in during this event will receive a scroll that can be used to reset all SPs on a character. The scroll is tradable to another character on the same account.

o    In order to receive your SP reset you must not be in the MTS, Cash Shop, or be on a boat.

Our developers are known as the Global development team. They are in charge of designing and preparing content for the Global service. We have all heard about this huge update known as Big Bang. So what is it about? How did the planning for it start? Our Global developers answer the questions you are dying to ask.

CM stands for Community manager and GDT stands for Global development team.

CM: Big Bang features many changes to already familiar game systems. What aspect of Big Bang was the hardest to complete and implement?

GDT: The hardest aspect was reworking the map structure and completely revamping the level experience curve. Adjusting the map structure required us to modify and rebalance all the quests to match the new level ranges, and move and rebalance all the monsters to make sure there is always level appropriate content to enjoy and mobs to fight.

CM: After five amazing years in Global MapleStory (seven years in Korea) what was the motivation to create Big Bang?

GDT: When we started out, our biggest focus was in creating new content so our players would always have something new to enjoy in MapleStory. That meant we added lots of new quests, new areas and even new classes to change up the game. Sometimes this meant restructuring the underlying game so that the new mechanics would work. After a while we found that players felt like the experience was a bit disjointed. We spent a lot of time reviewing player trends and player feedback through various channels and found that what most people wanted was a smoother MapleStory that didn’t feel quite so patched together. That’s when we started planning and preparing the Big Bang. It’s creating a better looking, feeling, and playing MapleStory without losing the essence of the great gameplay and all the fun content we’ve created over the years.

CM: Big Bang is unlike any other MapleStory content. What was done differently this time?

GDT: Previous content updates were always primarily developer driven and content-focused. We wanted to create enjoyable content based on various ideas, monsters, stories, or mechanics we thought would be fun for our players. When we put them in, we would then engineer the underlying game to make the addition work.

Big Bang was driven by player feedback, the needs of the players and the game as a whole. We thoroughly reviewed some outstanding issues and refined and streamlined the game’s structure as a whole rather than just adding more content on top of what already existed. We found that we could create something entirely new by just changing our mindset and working on the whole game.

CM: What preparations were made to ensure no minor detail was left out of Big Bang?

GDT: Big Bang involves changing and rebalancing all the existing Maple content – and there’s a lot of it! The entire development team went through the game from beginning to end to identify critical points. We spent many days (and nights!) organizing and analyzing all the game content and deciding what needed to be fine tuned. With Big Bang, we have started planning for the future by leaving in hooks that will allow future game update to be added to the game more smoothly. We’ve also streamlined our process of reviewing the game so we can continue to refine game elements as conditions warrant.

CM: Can you tell us what our players can expect from Big Bang?

GDT: The first thing most Maplers will notice is that the existing content has been changed and rebalanced significantly. Some of unnecessary and inconvenient game systems have been removed to streamline the Maple experience. We’ve removed insignificant or infrequently used class skills and replaced them with skills better suited for the way that class has actually evolved. Some of the original skills have been rebalanced, which should resolve many of the overpower issues brought up by the community.

Players can expect a really different playing experience from what they have grown used to. We hope our global players are looking forward to Big Bang as much as we look forward to bringing it to them!

CM: Thank you for answering our questions, Global developers! Maplers, are you excited about Big Bang as much as we are?!

MapleStory has been released in various countries around the world.
MapleStory Korea was the first version to be released; therefore, it currently has the most features compared to the rest. The other versions are at different stages of development and most are not as advanced in content as MapleStory Korea’s. With this advantage comes the problem of players (mainly from the North America (Global) version, but some from others) trying to play KoreaMS. These players are often referred to as 이주자, or “immigrants” by a majority of the Korean MapleStory players. These “immigrants” are the reason why a Korean Resident registration number is required to play. IP blocking is used in some of the other versions of the game, mostly for the same reason. Some attempt to bypass this by using Proxies, which spoof IP addresses to make it seem like a player is playing from a different country – however in Europe MapleStory a GameGuard proxy check has been implemented. This is also because Nexon has licenced MapleStory all around the world, to different licencees, and must respect their interests by making players play their localized version.
Though some versions share the same world names, they are different and independent of each other. They are defined by their language used, publisher, server location and specialized worlds.

Players may participate in in-game marriages at the town of Amoria (or Peach Blossom Island in the Chinese version of MapleStory). Guests may be invited to the wedding, and the marrying couple will receive wedding ring items. The wedding “ceremony” requires the completion of various quests. If a premium wedding ticket from the Cash Shop was purchased, the player is entitled to have a party after the ceremony. In Amoria Dungeon, players can fight exclusive monsters. The KoreaMS version of Amoria has been altered to remove the training grounds and the Chapel area, leaving only the Cathedral. On certain days, the Game Masters (also known as GMs) host special events in which any player is capable of participating, given their character is at a given map during the event time. All participants receive a trophy, and winners receive a random prize. Users are notified of an upcoming event by a scrolling box at the top of the game screen. Events are known to bring an influx of players to the event’s respective locations, which generally causes massive connection lag and sometimes even disconnections.[17] The large amount of special effects during an event can significantly slow down the player’s PC.
Occasionally, certain versions of the game hold events that celebrate a certain event in real-life or an event specific to that version, such as a holiday or new server release.[18] During these events, certain aspects of the game are modified in celebration; for example, the experience rate or drop rate may be increased, or special items may be released.
